A tweet-style quote reads: "Mario games teach us that even if something is essentially the same, psychologically it can be completely different. This example is very easy to understand." Below are two Super Mario Bros. screenshots: World 8-1 with tall block staircases, and World 8-3 with Mario on a lone block above scattered single blocks.

Mario Teaches Psychology: Same Blocks, Different Feeling

Two Super Mario Bros. screens, World 8-1 and 8-3, show that block stairs can feel easy or terrifying, a joke about how the same task can feel completely different.

Pixel art equation. Small 8-bit Mario, labeled "Person who's a potential customer", plus a Fire Flower, labeled "Your product", equals Fire Mario throwing a fireball, labeled "Awesome person who can do rad shit!" An orange arrow from the text "This isn't what your business sells." points at the flower. A blue arrow from "This is." points at Fire Mario. Footer: "© 2013 UserOnboard.com" A giant deflated inflatable Mario lies face-down on a concrete warehouse floor, his red cap and white glove crumpled, in front of a row of dark, unpowered vintage arcade cabinets and pinball machines along a gray wall. No text is visible. In a store aisle, a large Mario figure in a red cap and blue overalls grips a white flagpole topped with a gold ball and a red pennant bearing an M. Below it, hands hold fanned-out dollar bills, including a ten and a five, like a stripper pole tip. Nintendo Switch Online cards and game boxes line the shelves behind. NES-style dialogue box, white pixel text on black: OH FUCK WHAT A HORRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE. WHAT A COMPLETE DOGSHIT ASS NIGHT FOR A CURSE. GOD WHAT A FUCKING NIGHT, MY DUDE. FOR A CURSE I MEAN. FUCK THIS. Isometric pixel art of a retro gaming room. Shelves hold game cartridges, Mario mushrooms, Sonic, Link, Pokéballs and Bomberman. Stacked CRT TVs show Mario, with an NES, SNES, PlayStation, Neo Geo and Game Boy. Arcade cabinets, an Atari poster, birthday cakes, a dog, and two men playing. White pixelated text on a black background dotted with small yellow pixel stars reads: "EVERYTHING NOT SAVED WILL BE LOST."
